Kasilof River
The next day we headed back up the Kenai Peninsula towards Anchorage. It is a beautiful drive with some spectacular ocean views. Along the way observed a number of fishing outfitters and decided to get a hotel room and try fishing for some king salmon the next day.

The outfitter cost $145 per person for a half a day trip plus your fishing license. We drift fished the Kasilof River. Our outiftter owned a hotel. We were up at 5:00 am and floating down the river before 8:00.

The outfitter provides all of the gear. The boat hold four guests, plus the guy that rows the boat. We fished with salmon eggs and fished till about 1:00 pm. I had a couple of good bites and had one hooked but it got away. It's a lot cheaper just to buy your salmon.

The drive to Anchorage was breath-taking. Mountains, rivers, and waterfalls were everywhere. Just before Anchorage we stopped at Turnagain Arm, which is part of Cook’s Cove. Once a day a "large" wave enters the bay from the ocean. The Bore “wave” is more like a ripple. A man in a wet suit with a boogie board tryed to surf the wave.

At Anchorage we stayed downtown at a Howard Johnson's. We enjoyed a good crab leg dinner at a local restaurant and did some souvenir shopping. We shipped seafood to our kids. They said it was great.
