We arrived in Seward in the morning, and rented a car from Hertz (It's prononuced hurt's - $119 per day - OUCH!) and drove to Homer. It was a beautiful drive.

About halfway to Homer Claudia wanted to take a hike. We got about half way up this mountain trail and came across a tree that a grizzly bear had just ripped the bark off. We cancelled the hike. Just a reminder... you are not on top of the food chain in Alaska!

The picture above is the bay surrounding Homer. Claudia is pointing to the Homer spit. It is a penninsula that sticks out into the bay our hotel was the Lands End. It is at the very tip of the spit.

These pictures are the beach outside our hotel room. It was very cold and windy the day we visited Homer. We had planned to spend two nights in Homer and I was suppose to go halibut fishing the next day, but the with the windy weather the fishing trip was cancelled.

That evening we had a nive dinner and went back to the hotel and set in the hot tub... just like home!

The Homer Spit is also know for one very popular resident... they call her the Eagle Lady. Some years ago a lady started feeding bald eagles fish scraps from some of the local fish canneries. Today eagles are everywhere. This one was about 20' from our car.

No - I didn't catch it!
