cheer for the old guys
The Troy Boys have been playing softball together for 16 years. We play at Softball Central in Troy. We started playing on Tuesday nights, but a couple of years ago we switched to Thursdays. Bill Hunter, Mike Coulson, Tom Lenzen, and yours truly (Uncle Phil) played on the first Troy Boys team.

There are usually two leagues (summer and fall), with 8 teams in the league. The summer league consists of 14 games (you play each team twice), followed by a tourneyment. You have to win 3 games in the tourneyment.

The fall league is usually just 10 games, with no tourneyment. These are open leagues and the teams we play are usually filled with kids that are at least 20 years younger. We have never before finished first for an entire season, and only once (1987?) did we win the tourneyment.

But 1999 was a special year . . .

We finished the summer season with an 11 - 3 record, good enough for first place. Due to the nature of the tourneyment, you play one game the first week, followed by a double header the next week. Well - WE WON!!

For a bunch of old guys playing a competitive double header is tough. It must have been the hotest evening of the year. In the last game we battled from behind to win in the bottom of the 7th inning. Everybody played great!!

We tookhome two trophies, ,one for the regular season, and one for the tourneyment.

In the fall league we finished at 8 - 2, good enough for second place. For the year we had a 22 - 5 record.

Playing ball with this great bunch of guys is always a highlight of the year.
