~ Production has already wrapped on Lost In Space, the first science-fiction adventure about a family's intergalactic voyage aboard a sabotaged spaceship. Starring:
~ This motion picture event is directed by Stephen Hopkins and scheduled for release by NewLine Cinema in 1998.
~ Inspired by the television series which has become a worldwide phenomenon, Lost In Space remains faithful to the original characters while incorporating a contemporary storyline that stands alone as a bold new family adventure. Featuring more than 650 computer-generated visual effects (nearly twice as many as Jurassic Park), Lost In Space will be populated with otherworldly creatures and high-tech robots from Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
~ Written and produced by Akiva Goldsman, Lost In Space takes audiences into the not-too-distant future as Professor John Robinson (Hurt), his wife Maureen (Rogers), their daughters Judy (Graham) and Penny (Chabert), and son Will (Johnson) are selected to be the first family to colonize outer space.
~ Just as they are beginning to settle into their critical work, the Jupiter Two, their state-of-the-art spacecraft piloted by Major Don West (LeBlanc), strays dangerously off course. The Robinsons do not realize they are marooned with a sinister saboteur, Dr. Zachary Smith (Oldman), whose traitorous tinkering lands him and the Robinsons in a perilous corner of the cosmos.
~ Like never before, this space age family must band together and use their unique skills to complete their mission or risk certain death while Lost In Space.
~ With a 19-week production schedule, Lost In Space was filmed entirely at Shepperton Studios, England, where the production utilized 8 sound stages, two of which were recently built. New Line anticipates releasing the $70 million, special effects-packed film on April 3, 1998, and hopes to develop the project as a multi-picture franchise.
~ "Lost in Space," which ran on CBS from 1965 to 1968, chronicled the adventures of the Robinson family, the crew of a spaceship who wander from planet to planet in their quest to return home.
~ A New Line Production in association with Prelude Pictures and Irwin Allen Productions, Lost In Space is produced by Mark Koch, Stephen Hopkins and Akiva Goldsman. Mace Neufeld, Robert Rehme, Richard Saperstein and Michael DeLuca are executive producers, and Carla Fry and Kris Wiseman are co-producers.
